About
In the late 1950s my parents moved with their three young children from their flat in Charlton, south London, to a new residential development in Surrey.
I was born two years later.
About: Welcome
Despite moving out of the city, or perhaps because, we often returned to London to visit relatives, especially at Easter or Christmas; spending time with aunts and uncles, cousins and grandparents. At one such gathering, in the summer of 1973, we met some distant relatives who were visiting from America. The next day, back at home, struggling to see how I was related to this couple from Chicago, my mother helped me to sketch out the lines to show how the Buik family was linked to me. Our family tree had begun.
In the following years my father researched and gathered more information and in 1982 he produced more detailed hand-drawn charts of both sides of the family, which he continued to update until 1992. Fast-forward twenty years and the information began to be moved to a digital platform. Another ten years has elapsed; the family tree has grown again; but now this website allows the current version to sit alongside photos and stories from the family history.
